Field Operations Engineer - Power

 

We are seeking to hire three highly motivated individuals in the role of Field Operations Engineer to join our Technical Team in Suva.

As the Field Operations Engineer, you will be responsible for planning, implementation, maintenance, and upgrade of power systems that support telecommunications networks. The primary focus is on ensuring that the power supply to the network equipment is reliable and efficient for Digicel Fiji.

 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Implementation, maintenance, and upgrade of power systems for Digicel including backup power solutions in case of power outages.
  • Carry out weekly Data Center equipment testing and scheduled generator maintenance and servicing.
  • Perform site surveys to determine power requirements for new telecommunications installations.
  • Conduct power quality analysis and troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance of telecommunications networks.
  • Develop and implement safety protocols to ensure the safety of personnel working on power systems.
  • Communicate with vendors and other stakeholders to ensure that power systems meet Digicel’s requirements and expectations.
  • Manage end-to-end administration of procuring materials.
  • Liaise with Utility Providers for approvals and related works.
  • Maintenance, operation, and upgrade of power generation equipment such as generators, ESS (energy storage system), wind turbines, solar PV systems, and control systems.
  • Remote monitoring and control power core and generators. Troubleshooting and repairing electrical equipment and systems as needed.
  • Ensuring compliance with all applicable safety regulations, codes, and standards.
  • Assist engineers on daily operations and troubleshooting.
  • Compiling and submitting weekly performance reports to your supervisor.

 

Academic qualifications, Skills & Experience required for this role:

 

  • A diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering or similar,
  • At least three (3) years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Sound knowledge on the operation and maintenance of microwave transmission systems.
  • Hands-on knowledge on power system maintenance and operation.
  • Ability to climb on towers to carry out maintenance works on Telco equipment with detailed working knowledge of telephony operations.
  • Working knowledge of GSM principles and radio base station with detailed understanding of radio transmitter, receivers and antennae.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent leadership skills/qualities.
  • A group 2 driver’s license.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and handle multiple priority assignments simultaneously.
