About the team
Digicel Pacific HUB market’s Legal & Regulatory team is based in Suva, Fiji Islands. It has a direct reporting line to the Regional CEO of the Pacific HUB markets. The team engages with our external stakeholders to support the business, shapes outcomes, whilst building relationships with stakeholders to seek to mitigate legal and regulatory risk.
The role with us
We are seeking a strong, practical, and strategically minded professional for the position of Senior Counsel, who is excited by the challenge of working in this industry.
Key Responsibilities
In order to assist the Head of Legal & Regulatory, you draw on your expertise, combined with your evolving breadth of experience, to deliver against the following responsibilities:
- Give advice that is clear, commercial, fit-for purpose and tailored to the audience;
- Effectively manage an appropriate volume of work of complexity commensurate with your experience by being well organized, delivering on agreed commitments and prioritizing competing demands;
- Provide support on strategic projects, by identifying issues and risks that may have a significant impact on the business, providing expert guidance and project management, applying critical thinking, sharing informed insights, and implementing innovative solutions that achieve strategic objectives and resolve complex issues;
- Authentically engage, build, and maintain trusted and collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
- Apply a continuous improvement mindset when providing support to clients, by sharing great ideas and contributing to initiatives which help drive productivity improvements and maximize client experience outcomes.
- Provide a strong company secretarial and compliance structure to the entities within the Digicel Pacific HUB markets.
- Have a customer-first mindset, within the scope of the relevant laws and policies.
- Review a wide range of contracts across the breadth of vendors and customers.
About you
To be successful in the role, you will bring skills and experience in:
Qualifications: Tertiary qualification in Law, and admitted to practice in Fiji; Samoa or Tonga.
Capability:
- Minimum of 4 years post-admission experience (commercial and/or regulatory and/or litigation experience preferred)
- Strong project management skills
- Ability to engage with and influence senior stakeholders and explain complex issues clearly and concisely, as well as balancing and prioritizing workload
- Adaptable and flexible mindset
- Ability to write in plain English and advocate skillfully, as evidenced through contract drafting and negotiation, or preparing submissions and interacting with external stakeholders (note that we may ask preferred candidates to complete a written exercise to test these skills)
- Ability to manage projects autonomously and under pressure, as well as balancing and prioritizing workload
It would also be desirable to have experience in one or more of the following areas (of course having experience in multiple areas would be beneficial):
- company secretarial work; or
- corporate contract review; or
- experience and expertise in advising on and shaping regulation.
