We are currently seeking a highly motivated Radio Frequency Engineer to join our Technical Operations Team at the Digicel Khalsa office, reporting to the Senior RF Engineer. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of our growth and innovation!

 

In this role, you'll also be responsible for planning, optimizing, troubleshooting, and reporting on Cellular Radio Access Networks (RAN) in the Fiji Hub markets, as well as generating and analysing key performance indicators (KPIs).

 

Core responsibilities:  

  • Install, maintain, operate, and help trouble shoot associated satellite systems.
  • Carry out budget analysis, vendor evaluations, commercial appraisal and drive development of complete technical solutions in a cellular service provider environment.
  • Support telecoms and IP engineers in development, design, installation, and implementation of integrated satellite-based solutions, including Ground Earth Stations, and terrestrial backhauls and integration into TDM and IP based voice systems.
  • Generate engineering design documents (design review documents, pre-build/as built documentation, O&M etc.), writing proposals, creating presentations, generating, supporting system integration and implementation.
  • Work in the process of choosing search rings for the GSM/WCDMA/LTE/NR sites and the choice of sites for upgrade with a view to maintaining network quality for existing customers and rectifying areas with congestion, poor quality and little or no coverage.  This is to be done at the start of each phase, financial year.
  • Identify and provide solution for special areas of the networks. This includes indoor coverage, repeater solutions, special events cases etc.
  • Prepare frequency plan (and frequency retunes) and Cell Design Data for the GSM/WCDMA/LTE/NR networks at the start of each phase, financial year
  • Prepare scripts, configuration files and CME data for new & existing site configurations.
  • Analyse the expansion of the network while maintaining and improving radio network quality as defined by the set targeted Digicel’s key RAN KPI indicators
  • Analyse and improve Digicel’s key RAN KPI indicators for the GSM/WCDMA/LTE/NR network.
  • Perform Drive Tests and analyse log files as & when required and rectify any network problems detected.
  • Use of ticketing system to log TT, follow through and close TT with proper resolution documentation for future reference as valid case study.
  • Create network KPIs and reports, perform L1, L2 analysis, troubleshooting and escalate for L3 troubleshooting and review to minimize coverage and network disruption issues for Fiji Hub Markets.
  • Automate KPI reporting and tasks where possible.

Academic qualifications, Experience & Skills required for this role:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical / Electronics/ Telecommunications Engineering, Space Systems Engineering or Technical
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Telecommunications – RAN & Satellite Systems.
  • Experience in Huawei and Nokia RAN preferred.
  • Knowledge of fixed, low-earth-orbit, and mobile satellite systems, space segment
  • Knowledge of Mobile Communications.
  • Knowledge of BSS Parameter Definitions.
  • Proficient in the use of basic PC applications such as Microsoft Office, Windows and UNIX (Solaris).
  • Drive Testing and Fault Diagnosis using Network Optimization & Post Processing tools such as TEMS and Atoll. 
  • Radio Network Capacity Planning.
  • Basic Database administration skills.
  • Highly self-motivated and a quick learner.
  • Willing to work long and odd hours.
  • Willing to travel both domestically and internationally for work purposes.
  • Ability to manage people directly reporting to him/her and also manage vertical teams drawn from many, disparate functions. 
  • Well-developed project management skills
  • Must be flexible, be able to work under pressure.
  • Willing to listen and work with others from different cultural and professional backgrounds.
  • Good people skills.
