We are currently seeking a highly motivated Radio Frequency Engineer to join our Technical Operations Team at the Digicel Khalsa office, reporting to the Head of RAN and Transport. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of our growth and innovation!

 

This role is responsible for performing requirements analysis, design, and systems engineering for both new and existing Radio Networks, while also leading the planning, optimisation, troubleshooting, and reporting activities for Cellular Radio Access Networks (RAN) across the Fiji Hub markets. It further requires the generation, monitoring, and reporting of key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure network quality, performance, and continuous improvement.

 

Core responsibilities:  

  • Install, maintain, operate, and help trouble shoot associated Radio systems.
  • Carry out budget analysis, vendor evaluations, commercial appraisal and drive development of complete technical solutions in a cellular service provider environment.
  • Support telecoms and IP engineers in development, design, installation, and implementation of integrated Radio based solutions and terrestrial backhauls.
  • Generate engineering design documents (design review documents, pre-build/as built documentation, O&M etc.), writing proposals, creating presentations, generating, supporting system integration and implementation.
  • Perform Project managerial responsibilities as and when needed.
  • Perform the rollout process as follows:
    • Work in the process of choosing search rings for the GSM/WCDMA/LTE/NR sites and the choice of sites for upgrade with a view to maintaining network quality for existing customers and rectifying areas with congestion, poor quality and little or no coverage. This is to be done at the start of each phase, financial year
    • Identify and provide solution for special areas of the networks. This includes indoor coverage, repeater solutions, special events cases etc.
    • Prepare frequency plan (and frequency retunes) and Cell Design Data for the GSM/WCDMA/LTE/NR networks at the start of each phase, financial year
    • Prepare scripts, configuration files and CME data for new & existing site configurations.
  • Analyze the expansion of the network while maintaining and improving radio network quality as defined by the set targeted Digicel’s key RAN KPI indicators.
  • Analyze and improve Digicel’s key RAN KPI indicators for the GSM/WCDMA/LTE/NR network.
  • Perform Drive Tests and analyze log files as & when required and rectify any network problems detected.
  • Use of ticketing system to log TT, follow through and close TT with proper resolution documentation for future reference as valid case study.
  • Create network KPIs and reports, perform L1, L2 analysis, troubleshooting and escalate for L3 troubleshooting and review to minimize coverage and network disruption issues for Fiji Hub Markets.
  • Automate KPI reporting and tasks where possible

 

Academic qualifications, Experience & Skills required for this role:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical / Electronics/ Telecommunications Engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Telecommunications – RAN Systems.
  • Experience in Huawei and Nokia RAN preferred.
  • Knowledge of fixed, low-earth-orbit, and mobile satellite systems, space segment
  • Knowledge of Mobile Communications.
  • Knowledge of BSS Parameter Definitions.
  • Proficient in the use of basic PC applications such as Microsoft Office, Windows and UNIX (Solaris).
  • Drive Testing and Fault Diagnosis using Network Optimization & Post Processing tools such as TEMS and Atoll.
