We are currently seeking a highly motivated Capex Accounting Manager to join our Shared Services Finance Team at the Nabua office, reporting to the Head of Shared Services- Pacific Hub. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of our growth and innovation!’

The chosen candidate will be responsible for overseeing the entire Capex (Capital Expenditure) accounting process for Digicel Pacific Markets, including Fiji, Samoa, Vanuatu, Nauru, Tonga, and PNG. This role involves maintaining an accurate fixed asset register and ensuring the timely reporting of Capex deliverables.

Main Duties/ Responsibilities

  • Responsible for capital projects and Capex accounting for 6 Pacific Markets and their subsidiaries.
  • Liaising with relevant stakeholders regarding budgets, forecasts, cash flow projections, determine capital commitments and building capacity by identifying savings for new projects and resource redeployment.
  • Monitor/track capital expenditure to ensure that actual spend is in line with budget; hold meetings with Technical and other departments to track actual capex spend versus budget for both cash and accounting capex.
  • Manage and develop a team of Capex accountants to ensure the following:
  • Capital expenditure is capitalized in accordance with Group Accounting Policy and standards
  • CWIP accounts are cleared and transferred to fixed assets once assets are commissioned
  • Fixed assets are depreciated in accordance with Group Policy and that fixed asset stocktakes /disposal reviews
  • Capex requests are appropriately authorized in accordance with Group policy
  • Fixed assets disclosures and roll forward schedules for statutory reporting and audit workbooks are prepared accurately and on a timely basis
  • Ensuring adequate accruals are maintained where goods are received and services rendered.
  • GL reconciliations for fixed assets are prepared on a monthly basis
  • Accurate monthly capex/KPI reporting in reporting tool
  • Annual impairment assessment of tangible and intangible assets as well as after natural disaster and events influencing value of assets.
  • ARO - Recognition and maintenance of ARO (Asset Retirement Obligation) in accordance with policy and accounting standards. Ensuring adequate provisions are maintained for asset retirement, changing assumptions and accounting for upward or downward movement in provisions.
  • Ensuring compliance for internal controls and organizational policies.
  • Timely and accurate periodic reports (monthly, quarterly, bi-annually and annually) such as PPE & Intangibles movement.
  • Assist with internal and external audits in relation to fixed assets and capital expenditure
  • Attending to adhoc requests /reporting required for capital expenditure

 

Academic qualifications and/or experience required for this role:

  • University degree in accounting, finance or business studies
  • CPA/CA or equivalent professional accounting qualification or currently working towards this
  • 7+ years’ accounting experience including responsibility for fixed assets, ideally with a multinational corporation and have some years of managerial experience
  • Familiar with IAS 16, IAS37, IAS8
  • Attention to detail and ability to identify, prevent and correct errors/deficiencies in accounting
  • Ability to manage and develop a team of staff
  • Knowledge of IFRS, especially in relation to fixed assets accounting
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively to meet deadlines
  • Initiative to identify and implement process improvements in fixed assets accounting procedures/systems
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (especially Excel)
