We are currently seeking a highly motivated Tax Accountant to join our Finance Team at the Digicel Nabua Office, reporting to the Senior Tax Manager. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of our growth and innovation!

This role is responsible for the timely preparation of tax compliance, tax accounting and supporting schedules for the Hub Markets (Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, Vanuatu and Nauru). The role supports the Senior Tax Accountant and Senior Tax Manager with statutory returns, reconciliations, tax calculations, tax packs, audits and regulatory requirements, while maintaining accurate tax records and escalating complex or contentious matters for review.

Core responsibilities:  

Tax Compliance & Reporting

  • Prepare monthly and periodic statutory tax returns for Hub Markets for review and approval, including VAT/CT, FBT, telecom levy, turnover tax, gambling turnover tax and other applicable taxes.
  • Prepare payment instructions for approved returns and ensure timely submission to AP team for payment. 
  • Maintain statutory lodgement/payment records in KPMG Digital Gateway and assist with monitoring tax authority portals and outstanding matters.

Tax Accounting & Reconciliations

  • Prepare and post month-end tax journals, including VAT/CT clearing entries, FBT and turnover tax accruals, income tax entries and other recurring tax postings, within the required month-end close timelines.
  • Prepare tax-related balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules within required close timelines. 
  • Reconcile tax GL balances to tax authority statements and follow up identified differences. 
  • Prepare quarterly and year-end tax calculations/tax packs, including tax-effect entries and supporting workpapers. 
  • Assist the Senior Tax Manager with cash tax forecasts by collating relevant tax payment and supporting information. 

Business, Audit & Regulatory Support

  • Assist with routine tax queries from internal stakeholders and escalate technical or complex matters as appropriate. 
  • Prepare information for tax audits, reviews and disputes and assist with tax authority liaison in conjunction with the Senior Tax Manager. 
  • Assist with financial statement tax disclosures, external audit requirements and Companies Office/other statutory reporting. 
  • Maintain complete and organized tax records in accordance with statutory and internal requirements. 

Process Improvement & Development

  • Keep abreast of relevant changes in Hub-market tax legislation, rates and compliance requirements and communicate relevant changes to the Senior Tax Manager. 
  • Maintain tax templates, process notes, checklists and trackers and participate in tax training and knowledge sharing.

 

Academic qualifications, Experience & Skills required for this role:

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline.
  • CPA/CA qualification or currently working towards a recognized professional qualification.
  • 3+ years' relevant accounting, tax or financial reporting experience, preferably within a multinational or Chartered Accounting firm.
  • Knowledge of tax compliance and statutory reporting requirements, preferably across Pacific markets.
  • Proficiency in MS Office; knowledge of Great Plains/HFM advantageous
