We are currently seeking a highly motivated Switch Engineer to join our Technical Carriers Team at the Khalsa office, reporting to the Core & Billing Operations Lead. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of our growth and innovation!

This role is responsible for ensuring the smooth and effective operation of Digicel’s International Business Services and network. The engineer will address issues promptly or escalate them through the appropriate management channels when required. Acting as a technical expert for both Level 1 and Level 2 support, the role involves contributing to root cause analysis, problem resolution, and assisting with internal change and implementation activities. Additionally, the position provides technical support to the DPL technical team, Business Solutions, Post-paid services, and various International Business projects.

Core responsibilities:  

  • Working with the Operation team to manage and maintain all International Business (Voice Gateway and Roaming/ SMS) nodes related to Digicel Pacific.
  • Responsible for coordinating with internal stakeholders to follow up open issues related to IB Technical
  • Monitoring and handling of International Business-related service such as voice international, roaming and SMS international
  • Responsible for Level 1 & Level 2 troubleshooting for all international business nodes related technical issues
  • Responsible for escalations of all open issues with related customers
  • Responsible for preparing system engineering documents to support internal business stake holders on how to better handle its customers technical issues
  • Responsible for monitoring and maintaining quality of service for voice international, roaming and SMS international
  • Co-ordination with vendors for fault identification and rectification. Problem synthesis & reporting.
  • International Roaming Testing and coordination for troubleshooting customer issues
  • Execution for Work orders related to and under IB Technical operations team.
  • Traffic report analysis in order to identify KPI deviation and capacity issues.
  • Provide robust and timely reporting to the Team Leader containing information on productivity, progress on issues etc.
  • Collect, compile and analyze fault reports from either technical nodes or customer escalation
  • Perform regular testing to ensure services are up to bar for customer or even before customer picks it up
  • Support other Core & Billing Operations team members with Level 1 for the respective Core & Billing nodes
  • Keep an up-to-date knowledge about Core & Billing nodes in the Hub networks

Academic qualifications, Experience & Skills required for this role:

  • Telecommunications qualifications but not mandatory or equivalent in a relevant area of specialty.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in the telecommunications field or in a related area.
  • Familiar with telecommunications and networking concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Knowledgeable of telecommunication and networking protocols and standards including (but not limited to) TCP/IP, SIP, UDP/TCP, RTP, SIGTRAN, S7/C7, CODECS, OSI standards/reference model, GSM, LTE, CAMEL, MAP, SMS, SMPP etc.
  • Understanding of Operator setup and operational details
  • Understanding of GSM/ 3G and LTE networks.
  • Knowledge of equipment operations and network standards.
  • Ability to communicate internally, upward and cross functionally.
  • Ability to diagnose and correct various systems and inter working problems.
  • Knowledge of IP network design, Implementation & Operations.
  • Knowledge of 3GPP recommendations of GSM/GPRS service & its protocols.
