We are currently seeking a highly motivated Risk & Compliance Lead to join our Team in Nabua office, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer - Fiji. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of our growth and innovation!

 

The role is responsible for ensuring the respective Fiji Market’s Mobile Financial Services (MFS) business operation is compliant with all Anti-Money Laundering /Combating Financing of Terrorism, Fraud Prevention and Risk Management. The role will fulfill the AMLCO/MLRO role and requirements as defined by jurisdiction. This role will also Lead and manage the governance and regulatory affairs strategy/plan/requirements for the MFS Fiji Market. The role also provides high-level secretariat support to key audit, risk and board committees to ensure broader corporate governance requirements are in place and well-managed    

 

Core responsibilities:  

  • Develop, review and implement the Fiji market AML/CTF compliance and risk-management strategy, policies, procedures and controls.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, due-diligence requirements and internal frameworks.
  • Support the fulfilment of the jurisdiction’s AML Compliance Officer/Money Laundering Reporting Officer obligations, where applicable.
  • Maintain and test AUSTRAC-related AML/CTF obligations and controls.
  • Conduct assurance reviews and testing, identify control weaknesses, and coordinate timely remediation.
  • Ensure consistent customer identification, verification, KYC due diligence and distribution-channel controls.
  • Work with regional AML and sanctions teams to resolve high-risk customer, transaction-screening and screening-related matters.
  • Maintain the enterprise and compliance risk profile, risk register and related governance documentation.
  • Manage incidents from identification through escalation, remediation, closure and governance reporting.
  •  Deliver risk- and compliance-related training to internal and external business teams.
  • Develop and implement the market governance and regulatory framework.
  • Serve as the key contact for regulators, government agencies, industry bodies and other external stakeholders.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and coordinate implementation within required timeframes.
  • Manage regulatory submissions, including licences, product approvals, notifications and statutory reports.
  • Lead the application of governance, consumer-protection, ethics and data-privacy standards.
  • Prepare clear and timely risk, compliance and governance reports for senior leadership.
  • Act as Secretary to the MFS Audit Risk Committee and provide high-quality support to audit, risk and board committees.
  • Represent the business at MFS Board meetings and regional hub forums.
  • Lead internal, external and regulatory audits, ensuring agreed corrective actions are implemented and closed on time.
  • Build organisational capability through structured risk and compliance training and awareness programmes.
  • Maintain accurate records of governance, regulatory, risk assessments and remediation activities.
  • Review and validate internal controls across jurisdictions and for new projects.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen governance, regulatory, ethics and data-privacy processes.
  • Champion initiatives that improve the efficiency, effectiveness and maturity of the governance and regulatory function.

 

Academic qualifications, Experience & Skills required for this role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Banking, Accounting, Auditing or Law or a related field. A master's degree or professional certification (e.g. CAMS) or another similar certification is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in AML, Risk and Compliance Management within financial services or regulatory entity, with a track record of success in risk management.
  • Knowledge of AML laws and regulations applicable in Fiji.
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant laws and regulations relating to the Money Service Business and Mobile Money.
  • Strong understanding of Financial Services, AML/CTF, Regulatory environment including data and trends analysis;
  • Experience in identifying and resolving risk issues in an operational setting, preferably finance related;
  • Experience in developing AML/CFT, fraud prevention compliance programs, ERM, and implementation of risk mitigation systems;
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams;
